Healthy School Project

Green Flag Project

The Healthy Schools Project is being co-ordinated in co-operation with the Health Service Executive.

  • So far within our school we have encouraged parents and children to take healthy lunches to school. This was initially promoted through the Food Dudes programme where the children were given opportunities to taste a range of fruit and vegetables. The programme has spurred an interest among the children to take fruit and vegetables to school as part of their lunch. Last year the programme was extended as part of the Healthy Schools project where the junior classes (who did not participate in the Food Dudes programme) were taught about fruit and vegetables and were given an opportunity to taste them.

  • The children have participated in Physical activities run within the school. Our newest ideas has been to set up a play monitor system where the senior pupils have been given the responsibility of ensuring no child is alone in the yard with nothing to do. The play monitors teach other children how to play different playground games such as hop scotch, skipping and stuck in the mud!

  • It is hoped to get a dance workshop in operation within the school this year as part of the programme.
